South African media giant I Naspers has announced that it I will pay 388 million for a 28.7 ! percent stake in Digital Sky ; Technologies (DST), the Russian internet company that owns ! a controlling interest in the ! hugely popular online Polish I social network Nasza Klasa.
In addition to the cash payI ment, Naspers will also con! tribute its 39.3 percent stake I in Mail.ru, the leading communication and entertainment I platform in Russia, towards ! the deal.
This means that Naspers, ! which already controls Poland's ! most popular online auctioning I site Allegro, the instant mesi saging service Gadu-Gadu and financial news website Bankier.pl, will now add Nasza Klasa to its portfolio.
"We see this as a positive move because it could help the businesses in this group with the sharing of information and the possibility of preparing more sophisticated services for users," said Izabella Anuszewska, media expert at Millward Brown SMG-KRC, a consumer research institute. "As for Nasza Klasa, it could help them compete better with Facebook."
"It now remains to be seen whether these companies take advantage of these opportunities," she added.
